“The mission is to rescue, the dream is that one day, we won’t have to.”
“The mission is to rescue, the dream is that one day, we won’t have to”.
I know it may never happen. Certainly not in my lifetime, but still, what if we all worked toward this dream? If we can impact one person each in our lives that feel this way, maybe the tide will turn. Maybe people will view pets as they do their own children, a true member of the family, to be cared for the rest of their lives. Not just when it’s convenient. I understand that life can send us hard curve balls – and for that, there should be rescues available - but if my career forces me to relocate, I would never leave my child behind – nor would I leave my pets behind. I made a lifelong commitment to the souls in my life. Therefore, we have them included in our wills to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
Unfortunately, those hard curve balls do happen in life, even when we don’t plan for them.
Ultimately, we hope to help horse owners keep their beloved horse family members, even when times get tough. To provide hope when the only option appears to be to relinquishing their horse. Perhaps they are between jobs and can’t afford to feed their horse – we are working to provide a Central Oregon Hay bank for times of crisis. Perhaps their horse was diagnosed with a disease that is too costly to medicate at the moment – we are working on having prescription medications available at low or no cost. Perhaps a guardian needs surgery but has no one to care for their horse while they recover – we have space to board and care for their loved one until they are back on their feet. So many ways we hope to help horses stay with their families and not end up in rescues, or worse… Slaughter sales are real and many unwanted horses (or ones that end up in the wrong hands) find themselves frightened and packed tightly in trailers bound for our US border towns, many never living to see the end of the road. This should NEVER happen!
We encourage everyone to prepare for the unexpected. Please make provisions for the animals in your life in case you are no longer able to care for them. But when the unplanned unexpected happens, we hope to be able to help.
