Chiquita/Kita (aka The Wonder Horse)

Chiquita, a beautiful Mustang mare around 17 years old, was originally rescued in 2010 from a slaughter truck leaving Warm Springs after a round up, packed in with several others. A local rescue stopped the truck and bought the horses, saving them from certain death. Chiquita was pregnant and gave birth to a healthy male foal, who is living his best life at his forever home. Later Chiquita found herself adopted by a trainer who ended up using her for a bronc horse in rodeos. Ultimately, she ended up in auction at risk, from which she was rescued yet again and now resides with us. She has a whole lot of trauma from those past experiences and we have been working on positive reinforcement clicker training and Horse Speak with her to show her ropes and halters can be helpful and not scary when it comes to vet care and farrier work. We call her the Wonder Horse as she is very intune with the herd and people. She can sense when you need a buddy from a mile away. She deserves to live her best life without fear of being relocated and possibly be at risk again. She is our sensitive “heart of the herd” horse and loves treats and kind words.
